World Wildlife Day

World Wildlife Day is an international observance day celebrated annually on March 3. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2013, following a proposal from Thailand. The day aims to raise awareness of the need to protect the world’s wild animals and plants.

The date of March 3 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. CITES is an international agreement that regulates the trade in wild animals and plants. It aims to ensure that trade does not threaten the survival of species.

World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of life on Earth and to learn about the threats facing wild animals and plants. It is also a time to take action to protect wildlife. There are many things that individuals can do to help, such as reducing their consumption of animal products, supporting conservation organizations, and getting involved in local conservation efforts.

The theme for World Wildlife Day 2023 is “Partnerships for wildlife conservation.” This theme highlights the importance of working together to protect wildlife. Partnerships can be formed between governments, businesses, non-governmental organizations, and individuals. By working together, we can make a difference for wildlife.
