World Animal Day

World Animal Day was created in 1925 by Heinrich Zimmermann, the publisher of a German animal lovers’ magazine, “Man and Dog”, to raise awareness and improve the welfare of animals. October 4 was chosen because it was also known as the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of animals. The day brings people together to improve worldwide animal education and discuss the problems associated with domesticated, wild, endangered and threatened animals.

World Animal Day is an annual event celebrated on October 4th to raise awareness of the plight of animals and to promote animal welfare. It was founded in 1925 by Heinrich Zimmermann, a German animal welfare activist.

Zimmermann was a German animal welfare activist who founded World Animal Day in 1925. Zimmermann was born in 1887 and grew up in a family that loved animals. He was particularly fond of dogs and horses, and he often spent his free time exploring the countryside with his animal companions. As an adult, the publisher of a German animal lovers’ magazine, “Man and Dog”, to raise awareness and improve the welfare of animals.

In 1925, Zimmermann founded World Animal Day. The day was originally celebrated on March 24, but it was later moved to October 4, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. World Animal Day is now celebrated in over 70 countries around the world.

Zimmermann continued to work for animal welfare until his death in 1942. He was a tireless advocate for animals, and he helped to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare around the world.
