Walmart Tests Reusable Packaging for InHome Delivery with Loop Partnership.
Walmart is piloting a new initiative focused on sustainability in partnership with Loop, a reuse platform developed by TerraCycle. The program allows customers in Northwest Arkansas to receive groceries and other household goods delivered directly to their homes in reusable packaging through Walmart’s InHome delivery service.
This innovative program combines the convenience of home delivery with the environmental benefits of reusable containers. “Loop was designed to reinvent the way we consume by learning from historic circular and sustainable models, while honoring the convenience afforded by our single-use consumption of today,” says Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of Loop and TerraCycle, in a press release.
Customers participating in the pilot program can choose from a limited assortment of products from well-known brands such as Gillette, Cascade, Kraft Heinz, and Seventh Generation. These items will arrive in durable, reusable containers designed for multiple trips between the distribution center and the customer’s doorstep. After finishing the products, customers can simply return the empty containers with their next InHome delivery, eliminating the waste associated with single-use packaging.

The pilot program is currently underway in the Bentonville and Rogers areas of Northwest Arkansas. The success of this initial launch will determine whether Walmart expands the program to a wider customer base.
“We are excited to partner with Loop to offer our InHome delivery customers a more sustainable option,” said a Walmart spokesperson. “This pilot program allows us to explore the possibilities of reusable packaging and assess its potential to reduce waste and create a more circular supply chain.”
The partnership with Loop reflects Walmart’s growing commitment to sustainability. The company has set ambitious goals for reducing waste and increasing its use of recycled content in its packaging. This pilot program represents a significant step towards achieving those goals and could pave the way for a more sustainable future for grocery shopping and home deliveries.
