Record Number of Bigg’s Killer Whales Spotted in the Salish Sea

  • A record number of transient Bigg’s killer whales were counted off the coast of British Columbia and Washington State.
  • Whale watchers counted 10 distinct groups of the whales between Campbell River and Puget Sound, setting a new high of more than 70 whales.
  • Bigg’s whales are thriving because of an abundance of seals and sea lions in the region this time of year.
