Protections for Gray Wolves Restored Across Much of the U.S.

  • In the United States, a judge has restored federal protections for gray wolves across many areas in the country.
  • The judge had announced that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had failed to show how the wolf populations could be sustained without protection under the Endangered Species Act.
  • Wildlife advocacy groups in the area said the judge’s order would most immediately put a stop to hunting in the Great Lakes region.
