MIT Startup Drilling 12 Miles Into the Earth to Suck Out Energy

  • A startup called Quaise has acquired funding to use fusion power tech to drill 12 miles into the Earth and harvest energy from there.
  • If this works, it could give humans access to clean (and limitless) geothermal energy.
  • The machine used is called a gyrotron – the startup would point it at the ground and drill into it using energy beams.
