Milk-alternatives brand Rebel Kitchen claims ‘carbon neutral’ status

The company claims to now be producing ‘carbon neutral’ milk-alternatives | Credit: Rebel Kitchen Company offsets CO2 from entire business supply chain by partnering with two rainforest protection projects in Peru Plant-based drink manufacturer Rebel Kitchen has become a ‘carbon neutral’ company six years ahead of its 2025 target date, after announcing this week that it offset carbon emissions from its entire supply chain last year. The company – which produces vegan-friendly milk, yoghurt, coffee and coconut drinks under its Mylk brand – believes it is the first plant-based alternative producer to achieve carbon neutrality, claiming "the entire economic ripple required to get you our products has been offset". Working with environmental consultancy Carbon Analytics, the firm said it tracked and analysed the CO2 value of its full business footprint, including purchasing of ingredients, shipping, logistics, manufacturing, and packaging. The study revealed Rebel Kitchen’s carbon footprint was just over 4,000 tonnes during 2018/19, or the equivalent to flying a Boeing 747 aircraft non-stop for 5.3 days.
