Several years ago, I read a quote by activist David Suzuki that has stuck with me ever since. In some ways, it was instrumental in the start of Happy Eco News.
Dr. Suzuki was speaking about Western society’s reaction to being faced with clear scientific evidence of how our actions damage the climate and our ability to live on Earth.
“We are faced with two choices: make drastic changes to how we live or deny anything is wrong and continue the way we always have.”

Now, some ten years on, the deniers have changed tactics; they now say climate change is real, but it’s too late to change, that the damage is already done, and therefore we should all give up, and keep doing the same things that got us here in the first place.
I say it is not too late to change, and indeed we must. Yes, we have lost a lot of time and yes, the situation can feel overwhelming. But we cannot give up. We must encourage people to take action, but they must have hope. Without hope, why would anyone even bother?
Happy Eco News is here for two reasons: 1) to show people that there is reason for hope and that they, too, should take action, and 2) to help people that are already taking action by providing them with a platform so they can reach more people with their message.
It is time all of us take action in our day-to-day lives and make the world a better place, if not for us, for our children and our grandchildren.
