Joint Research Project Aims to Reduce Carbon Footprint of Shipping Industry

  • The University of British Columbia, the Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping, and the National Research Council of Canada’s Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering Research Centre have teamed up to reduce the environmental footprint of shipping.
  • The study will look at research and development efforts, support policy decisions, and recommend technologies that can be used to retrofit existing ships and be incorporated into new ships.
  • “This research will see the development of a framework to assess and rank technological solutions to help reduce the overall environmental impact of marine shipping,” said Paul Blomerus, the Executive Director of Clear Seas.
