  • Comoros, an archipelagic nation in the western Indian Ocean is creating five new protected areas including three new marine protected areas.
  • The plan is to replicate the co-management approach that was seen with the Mohéli National Park.
  • “We stopped people outside our village from coming and poaching the turtles” said Dhoihirdine Ahmada Bacar, who helped set up the Association for the Socio-Economic Development of Itsamia.
