Chemical warfare has dominated agricultural pest control for decades, but the use of chemical pesticides is being increasingly restricted by concerns about their environmental and health effects. Now biological control – unleashing predators and parasites against plant pests – is on the rise. But as the FT’s Clive Cookson explains, it’s a complex field, with many different approaches.
