Burundi’s collines are vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Bujumbura, Burundi, is a city in Africa, with steep hillsides or ‘collines’ to the north. Each colline has a patchwork of communities organized around it. It’s threatened by the effects of climate change, such as as torrential rains, floods and landslides. The World Bank has committed to scale up investment programmes to make Burundi’s collines more resilient to climate change. This will help vulnerable communities, many of which are dependent on agriculture. When you land in Bujumbura, Burundi, you are immediately struck by the verdant landscape. Everything is green. The peaceful city is surrounded by beautiful Lake Tanganyika, the deepest in Africa, with majestic hills to the north.
