Catherine Timko helps children embrace the environment at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center: My Cleveland

Catherine Timko is just the fourth head of the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center in its 74 years. Cleveland creds: Lifelong local, raised in Brook Park Currently lives: Boston Township Schooling: Midpark High, Hiram College Family: husband, Martin Favorite locally owned restaurants: Bay Diner, Spice, Cafe Tandoor How’s your place compare to other nature centers? Catherine: We have a nature-based preschool. We have a wildlife rehabilitation center, the only one in Cuyahoga County, and an animal collection We have one of the only two public planetariums in Cuyahoga County; the other’s at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. We’re one of the only nature centers near the lake. We’re both a nature center and a children’s museum. We have a few programs for adults, but we focus on families and children through their teens and college interns. We host scout programs and field trips. We do summer camps and a family campout in June. We’re open seven days a week. We serve over 160,00 people each year. What are some of your other activities?
