California Just Banned Gas-Powered Cars. Here’s Everything You Need to Know

  • California recently adopted rules that would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars and light trucks by 2035.
  • Plug-in hybrids may still be sold in 2035 as long as they are capable of running at least 50 miles only on battery power.
  • The projection is that the greenhouse gas emissions from gas-powered cars and trucks will be 62 percent lower in 2040 than in 2026.
