ABOUT Mark

Mark Dullea is a native of the Boston area. He grew up in the city’s Dorchester area, and now lives just to the north in Peabody MA. He graduated from Boston College after studying economics and finance, and has a Master’s in Urban Planning degree from the University of Rhode Island.

As a planner, he worked for the eastern Mass. cities of Cambridge, Lowell and Arlington, as well as for the U.S. National Park Service as a planner of national historic parks and sites. He has been part of the green energy movement for over 50 years. In 1975, while working at the Cambridge Planning Department he learned of free lunchtime meetings, held at the MIT Faculty Club, and open to anyone interested in learning about solar energy. After a few hours of listening to and mingling with a small group of physicists, engineers and architects from MIT and Harvard, he said he realized that “this is the future”.

In retirement he maintains a website devoted to assisting people in and otherwise connected to local government in matters of climate planning and action, and emerging technologies in energy and sustainability. He has written articles for city and regional type magazines and for the websites of organizations aiming at a greener future, and volunteers from time to time assisting city planners he knows in the area, as well as various nonprofits.

The home that he occupies with his wife Donna has been 90% solar powered, and 100% electric, for over a dozen years.
