• An engineer in New Mexico is exploring new ways to roast green chiles – by using concentrated sunlight.
  • Using a traditional steel-drum tumbling chile roaster and 38 mirror-like devices used to focus sunlight, the engineer was able to achieve a temperature above 900 degrees which is the temperature needed to roast the chiles.
  • He found that by switching from propane to solar power would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.68 pounds per 22 pounds of green chile roasted.
