It was announced earlier this year that the council would be installing two bays, fitted with charging points, on 17 streets around the borough. And it has now been confirmed that traffic wardens have the power to dish out penalties to petrol or diesel vehicles treating the facilities as normal parking spaces. The warning that those who flout the rules will face punishment came during a discussion on how Solihull intends to support those switching to the new, greener technology. Colin Maltby, the council’s future mobility project manager, said that the bays were covered by traffic regulation orders (TROs) – which allow rules to be enforced. "It will be like any other parking enforcement [like] parking on double yellow lines. They will get a ticket. "We have had confirmation that our parking wardens will be able to offer the same service." The council told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that fines on-street would be £70, halved for those who pay within 14 days. […]
