It’s become a regular fixture of the festival season: the shaming photos of trash and broken camping gear strewn across paddocks that only hours earlier were home to munted music lovers. Now, some of the country’s biggest music festivals are getting onboard with a new campaign to tackle those enormous piles of waste that get left behind after the gates close. The Party With The Planet campaign is urging festivalgoers to go green by following four easy steps to cut down on festival waste, and if you take the pledge online you could win double passes to all the festivals involved. Four steps to go green this festival season: Be a caretaker – look after the site like it’s your own backyard. Buy less – seek new experiences over more stuff and BYO where you can. Choose better – borrow, hire, buy secondhand or buy for life. Take it home – leave no trace. Those festivals include the summer favourites Beyond the Valley, Falls Festival, Lost Paradise, Party in the Paddock, Pitch Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival, Strawberry Fields and Unify Gathering, with Island Vibe and Splendour In The Grass on board for next year.
