Sustainability is the word of the moment in fashion with consumers and brands taking action to lessen their environmental impact. And now, the movement appears to be entering the bridal fashion market, with Lyst noting the huge increased interest in pre-owned wedding dresses in its 2019 report. To compile the data, the global fashion search engine analysed the online shopping behaviour of more than five million people a month, who were searching, browsing and buying fashion across 12,000 designers and stores online. The report also factors in social media metrics, including account influencer and brand followings, multi-platform mentions of products, hashtags and related keywords. The results proved that the sustainable bride is on the rise with views on pre-owned wedding dresses up by 93 per cent year on year. In addition to this, the keywords ‘vintage’ and ‘second hand’ saw a combined increase of 42 per cent since the 2018 report.
